Melbourne's Tramway Routes 1921 with Kiwi Advertising

from A$100.00

This is a wonderful restoration and reproduction of the original Tourist Map (folded up version) showing cable and electric tramways for tourist navigation in the early boom of 1921 which was sold at 1d = 1 penny. Advertising of Kiwi Boot polish is brilliant and waterproof.

Electric trams are solid lined in red, cable trams have a dashed line. The contrast of the black city road network and the red highlight make this such a wonderfully nostalgic piece of history. The timetable and tram information is displayed in the images.

The Kiwi brand is actually an Australia invention. In 1906, William Ramsay, started Kiwi in a two-roomed factory in Bouverie Street, Carlton, with business partner Hamilton McKellan. Its name derived from William's New Zealand-born wife, Annie. (Kiwi building photo and details reference from The Age).
