Melbourne: The Garden Capital Suburban Icon Poster
Few streets capture the energy of Melbourne quite like Swanston Street.
At its southern end, the spires of St Paul’s Cathedral rise above the intersection while the grand clock tower of Melbourne Town Hall looks over the heart of the city.
A classic Z-class tram glides along the tracks, part of the network that has carried passengers up and down Swanston Street for generations. Beneath the street, the new Town Hall Station, part of Melbourne’s Metro Tunnel project, is reshaping the city once again.
The Town Hall forecourt transforms throughout the year with a rotating installation of edible plants. Sunflowers, herbs, corn and eggplant grow here for several weeks before being donated to community gardens across Melbourne, truly earning the nickname “Australia’s Garden State”.
Swanston Street. Cathedral spires rise. Trams roll past. And a garden grows in the heart of the city.
This artwork is available in A0, A1, A2, A3, A4.
