Uncle Tobys West Footscray Suburban Icon Poster

from A$50.00

These iconic silos towering in West Footscray have remained unused since the 1990s, when Uncle Toby's relocated its factory operations to Wagunyuh, Victoria.

The history of Uncle Toby's has seemed to depend on who has owned the brand. While Nestlé, the current owners, claim its origins trace back to 1861 with the Parsons Brothers (who created the John Bull Oats brand), the merger with Uncle Toby's occurred much later, in the 1970s.

In 1893, Clifford Love & Co., a family-owned business in Sydney, purchased a small oat company. Nellie, Clifford’s sister, designed the logo, featuring a man and woman in Victorian-era attire, while the name was inspired by Laurence Sterne’s 18th-century novel, Tristam Shandy.

From the 1950s to the 1970s, Uncle Toby's changed hands multiple times. In 1982, Doug Shears, a Victorian oat farmer who acquired the John Bull Oats brand, merged it with Uncle Toby's. Finally, Nestlé acquired it in 2006.

Our Suburban Icon Poster of this inner-west icon proudly displays the towering silos, featuring the 130-year-old Uncle Toby’s logo. You can bring home this poster and admire it during your morning breakfast, a nod to the hearty oats made once upon a time in the inner-west!

This artwork is available in A0, A1, A2, A3, A4, as well as the ever popular Postcard. Professional framing is available on A0, A1 and A2 sizes via pick up only.
